The Wisdom of the Dragon

Bruce Lee was a young man with wisdom beyond his years. Although he was much younger than many of his students, he had a great impact on their lives. His teachings were much deeper than just martial arts. My Sifu, Leo Fong told me that one day Bruce asked him “why are you studying all of these different systems of Gung Fu”, he answered  “Bruce, I’m looking for the ultimate”. Bruce smiled at him and said “man, there ain’t no ultimate, the ultimate is in you (as he pushed down on Leo’s chest with his index finger)”. This moment would have an ever-lasting effect on Leo’s life beyond only martial arts. How do we find the ultimate within us? Start by being true to who you are, know thyself. Bruce would say ” find the cause of your own ignorance”. Identify what it is that’s your unique talent or gift. then nurture it. Before you know it things will all fall in place. Don’t try and imitate others, imitation is the palest form of flattery. Just honestly express yourself.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”
